Where did straw bale construction begin?

It is generally thought that straw bale construction began in the Sand Hills area of Nebraska around the advent of the square baler more than 100 years ago. Examples of those earliest bale buidlings still exist and are in use today. The earliest known bale building in Canada is the Bad Heart Church in Bad Heart Alberta which is more than 50 years old and is in daily use today.

Where can you build straw bale buildings?

Straw bale buildings are being built all over the world. They are built in near Arctic, tropical, arid, humid, and temperate climates in the first, second, and third worlds. In Canada they are built in every province and the Yukon. They can be built in rural areas, the suburbs, or in the heart of the city. The only limitation to where they can be built is the availability of straw bales.
