There are plenty of straw bale building plans available on the web. Not everyone wants to live in a little cluster of round buildings or a domed circular hobbit hole with a round door. There is a need for practical, easy to build plans for buildings that regular people want to live in. These plans are for small- to mid-sized buildings. The packages include all the drawings of the building that you need to get your building permit. You will need to find a local civil or structural engineer to do your foundation plan and to stamp your drawing package. As the buildings are stamped and permitted we will add a note to each one indicating that it has received a stamp and a building permit has been issued.
10 x 14 Workshop Building (Free)
An 83 square foot load bearing workshop building. This fully insulated cabin is more like a tiny house. All of the finishing details, materials, and methods used in this building are the same as those we use in building full sized houses. Our daughter Melissa and her boyfriend stayed in one of these cabins in November, 2006 and were perfectly comfortable with a small 400 W electric heater. This plan has been stamped and permitted and this building has been built two times.
This series of one and one half storey two bedroom light frame homes range in size from 2518 square feet to 3036 square feet (building code 1761 square feet to 2153 square feet usable). They feature structural pre-build plans, balloon construction, and a free standing post and beam second floor loft. This loft ranges from 508 to 614 square feet usable and can be used as extra bedroom space, office/studio space, play space for the kids, or as storage. This structural pre-build free standing loft method of construction allows you to raise the roof and stack and plaster the bales to enclose the building early in the season. This gives you the freedom to work on the interior of the building without having to worry about the onset of winter. The building can be heated and work can continue all year round. These plans can all be easily modified to make them a single storey (Type 1A).
This is the Organic Environments Small House. It is a 1594 (953) square foot one and one half storey home. We designed this building as a balloon with a full span roof and free standing second floor loft. This is an ideal started home. The loft can be left completely open for a single owner or a couple or it can be closed for more privacy. It can even be divided into two smaller bedrooms for a small family. Our aim with this building is to keep costs extremely low.
